Binocle calls itself the small roaster who wanted to stay small, yet it has a big mission: delivering exceptional climate‑positive coffee for novices and turbo‑geeks. Operating from Montreal’s Mile‑End, it roasts tiny batches on a zero‑emission Bellwether roaster, packs the beans in biodegradable bags and delivers them carbon‑neutral by bike, staying small so it can preserve its artisanal approach, know customers by name and never dilute its values. The team of just two works directly with importers and selects coffees from small and medium producers who farm sustainably and are paid fairly. They double‑offset their carbon footprint through Carbone Boréal and hold dual carbon‑neutral certifications covering their coffee and operations. Their mission encompasses ethical coffee, compostable packaging, electric deliveries, monthly donations and collaborations with local artists, all under the banner of ‘climate positive’. Founder Iouri Philippe Paille left a successful advertising career to create Binocle, vowing never to compromise on environmental and social values. His dedication to doing things the right way has earned the roastery recognition, including Th3rdwave’s Roaster of the Year – Rising Star award.
