Sumo Coffee Roasters was launched in summer 2020 by World Cup Tasters Champion Daniel Horbat and his partner Alexandra during the pandemic. The pair, originally from Romania but now based in Dublin, turned their long‑held dream into a roastery, pouring their love for coffee and dedication to quality into every roast. Their mission is to create a transparent and ethical coffee business that celebrates everyone involved in the coffee chain, from farmers to baristas. They work to ensure direct trade and fair prices for producers and educate consumers about the craft behind each bean. Sumo embraces cultural diversity, drawing inspiration from Japanese culture and roasting beans from around the world. With Daniel’s extensive experience in coffee championships—including multiple Irish Cup Tasting titles and the World Cup Tasters crown—Sumo strives to raise standards and innovate within the industry. Operating from Unit 2B2 on JFK Road in Dublin’s Bluebell area, they offer wholesale partnerships and a rotating selection of unique coffees.
