George Howell Coffee

George Howell Coffee is a Boston‑area roaster founded in 2004 by specialty coffee pioneer George Howell. Operating from Acton, Massachusetts, the company sources and roasts single‑farm and regional coffees with exceptional precision, continuing Howell’s decades‑long mission to elevate coffee quality and terroir.

About George Howell Coffee

George Howell Coffee traces its roots to The Coffee Connection, a chain of cafés that Howell launched in 1974 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After growing the business to 24 stores and selling it to Starbucks in 1994, Howell travelled globally and worked with the UN and International Coffee Organization to develop sustainable models for coffee farmers, helping establish the Cup of Excellence program. In 2004 he founded George Howell Coffee to pursue his passion for single‑estate coffees. The company’s mission is to identify, source and roast the world’s finest regional and single farm coffees, treating each with precision from export to storage to roasting and cup. With cafés in the Boston area and a roastery in Acton, Massachusetts, the team invites customers to explore coffee’s rainbow of flavors and join a journey toward the ultimate cup.
