Plowshares

Plowshares Coffee Roasters is a boutique specialty roaster founded in 2008 in the Ramapo Valley of New York. Now based in New York City, this quality‑focused roaster sources premium beans through direct relationships, roasts to highlight origin clarity, and operates welcoming cafés in Manhattan’s Upper West Side and West Harlem.

About Plowshares

Plowshares began roasting specialty coffee in Hillburn, New York in 2008 when quality‑focused roasters were scarce. Founded by coffee enthusiast Anthony Kurutz, the company started as a wholesale roaster in the Ramapo Valley before opening its first cafe in 2014 near Columbia University on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Built on a commitment to quality and consistency, Plowshares sources beans through direct relationships and roasts them to accentuate origin‑specific attributes for clarity and sweetness. Over the years the roaster has grown from a fledgling wholesale outfit into a respected roasting and retail company in New York City. In 2018 Plowshares moved its roastery to a modern facility in West Harlem, where it also operates a café. Its flagship Bloomingdale café at 2730 Broadway and the West Harlem location at 1351 Amsterdam Avenue serve as community hubs, reflecting the company’s ethos of transparency, craft and connection.
