About Disciple Coffee Roasters
Disciple Coffee Roasters is the roasting project of Marwin Shaw, the founder of Melbourne cafés Monk Bodhi Dharma, Admiral Cheng Ho and Bayano the Rebel. After years of running cafés, Shaw sold them to focus on his roasting passion, establishing Disciple in a small warehouse off Sydney Road that he likens to a coffee cellar door. The team believes farmers and producers are the most crucial part of the coffee journey. They follow the seasons and work closely with growers through direct relationships, sharing the best coffee with the community while showcasing the farmers’ hard work. Their roasting approach gently coaxes each coffee to let the beans’ characteristics shine, and all cups are served black to honour the raw flavours. At their Brunswick cellar door you’ll find eight to ten different espressos and pour‑over options, sometimes priced from $5 up to $200 for rare coffees. The space eschews disposable cups, encouraging visitors to bring their own or enjoy coffee in handmade ceramics, and occasionally serves house‑made vegan snacks. The roastery acts as a community hub that celebrates the growers and invites customers to experience coffee at its purest.
