Caffè Vita was founded in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood in 1995 by Mike McConnell. An early advocate of working directly with farmers, the company pioneered the Farm Direct movement, building relationships with growers in more than 11 countries. Vita roasts its coffee by hand on vintage German machines and remains independent and locally owned. Today the company operates roasteries and cafés in Seattle, Brooklyn and Phoenix and has expanded to about a dozen locations. Its flagship roastery and café at 1005 E Pike Street in Seattle’s Capitol Hill houses the roaster, café and company offices. Under new owner Deming Maclise since 2020, Vita continues to support community initiatives like barista training programs for youth and charitable fundraising while maintaining its commitment to fresh, sustainably sourced coffee.
