About Slate Coffee Roasters
1) Slate is a family-owned specialty roaster founded by Lisanne Walker and her children (Chelsey and Keenan). The company began as a mobile Airstream service and expanded into brick-and-mortar cafés and a roastery in Seattle, driven by a desire to re-approach coffee with a fresh perspective and hospitality. 2) Slate practices “exposure roasting”: tailoring roast profiles to expose each coffee’s inherent characteristics rather than imposing a uniform roast. They pursue direct relationships with producers, rotate seasonal offerings, and emphasize transparency about origin details. 3) In retail, Slate became known for modern, minimalist café experiences (notable items include the Deconstructed Espresso) and a focus on brewing intentionally, with different café formats to suit neighborhood needs.
