About Hammerhead Coffee Roasters
Founded in 2007 by Scott Hartwich and Mary Burwell, Hammerhead Coffee Roasters traces its roots to Portland, Oregon, where the founders met and launched one of the city's earliest espresso carts. Their success led them to Bellingham, where they built a beloved coffee house and small‑batch roasting business. Now owned by Mitchell Steed and Meredith O’Malley, Hammerhead continues to honor that legacy. The company sources Fair Trade, Organic‑certified green beans and prefers to work with cooperatives of small growers rather than large plantations. Since early 2016 they've noted "Ingredients: 100% Organic Coffee Beans" on their packaging and are working toward new organic certification in 2026.
