Halfwit Coffee Roasters

Halfwit Coffee Roasters began in 2012 as the brainchild of The Wormhole Coffee team in Chicago’s Wicker Park. Their aim was to give baristas and consumers a panoramic understanding of coffee, blending beverage science with service and hospitality. They roast on a 12 kg Diedrich machine in small batches three times a week, tasting every batch and offering only seasonal coffees. The company started under owner Travis Schaffner and supplies coffee for The Wormhole and other cafes. Halfwit focuses on staying small and listening to existing customers, providing expertly roasted, seasonal coffees, training and a competitive equipment program. Learning and paying fair prices are core to their mission, and visits to origin inform their approach. Their roastery in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood is open by appointment at 2415 W 19th Street.
