The first coffee washing station in the country was built in 1952. The name 'Butegana' means 'to fall into a trap' because Rwandan soldiers once fell into the trap of the Burundian army in the valley. The station was built strategically between two hills. Most of Burundi's coffee trees are of the Red Bourbon variety.
