Alo Coffee

Alo Coffee, based in Bensa, Sidama, Ethiopia, is a specialty coffee producer founded by Tamiru Tadesse and his wife, Messi. Their first submission to the 2021 Ethiopian Cup of Excellence won first place, and they curate traceable, high-altitude coffees to showcase Sidama’s terroir while supporting smallholder farmers.

Alo Coffee traces its roots to the tiny village of Alo in Bensa, Sidama—the birthplace of founder Tamiru Tadesse and the heartland of some of Ethiopia’s most celebrated coffees. Together with his wife, Messi, Tamiru founded Alo Coffee in 2020 after years in the coffee industry. Their very first submission to the Ethiopia Cup of Excellence in 2021, a lot from their home village, won first place, proving Sidama’s coffees could stand among the world’s best. The company’s vision is to become a global leader in Ethiopian specialty coffee, known for traceable, high -quality production and a commitment to sustainability and community empowerment. Alo Coffee emphasises quality, with premium‑grade, award ‑winning Ethiopian coffees. Alo Coffee operates high‑end processing stations across Sidama’s Bensa, Bona and Burra zones and West Arsi’s Nensebo region. They focus on high‑altitude microlots, selectively handpicking and carefully processing heirloom varieties such as 74158 to highlight the floral brightness and tropical fruit complexity of Sidama’s terroir.
