They select coffees through blind cuppings to give every coffee an equal chance and build strong relationships with suppliers. Their offerings range from classic profiles to exceptional and uncommon coffees, all fully traceable to the farm and chosen for clean, flavorful and complex cups. Located in one of the old warehouses of Rotterdam’s UNESCO‑listed Van Nelle Factory, the roastery pays homage to the site's heritage while making reasoned, future‑forward, quality‑driven decisions. They embrace a no‑nonsense approach, turning ideas into action and basing choices on facts and vision. Innovation and sustainability guide their operations: they use a state‑of‑the‑art Loring S35 Kestrel roaster, source renewable energy, and prioritize reducing, reusing and recycling. The roastery features a Sovda color sorter, quality control space and a tasting room and aims to reignite the coffee tradition in the iconic factory. Founded in 2021 by award‑winning barista and Coffee Masters London 2019 champion Rob Clarijs, who discovered his passion for coffee after a memorable café experience in Copenhagen, A Matter of Concrete is the culmination of his years of roasting and entrepreneurship.
